How To Check Spotify Popularity Index?

How To Check Spotify Popularity Index?

The popularity index (PI) is a significant metric for any musician on Spotify. It is an estimation to check where you - as an artist stand toward the Spotify algorithm. A high SPI allows your songs to get onto Spotify's recommended playlists. Therefore, you should improve your PI to give yourself more playlist placements.

In this blog, we’ll explain what precisely an SPI is and how to check your SPI so that you can better your score. If the term algorithm work is unfamiliar, check out our extensive discussion about Spotify Algorithm

What is Spotify's Popularity Index?

Spotify’s Popularity Index is a score to rank the popularity of the artists compared to other artists on Spotify from a scale of 0 to 100. This term determines your performance based on your stream count, repeat listening, skip rates, number of added playlists and share rate.

In the next blog, we will provide valuable tips to help you leverage your score, stay stunned, and sign-up to get the first read.

Why do you need to check your SPI?

The chance of your song being promoted is proportional to its popularity score. This means the higher score your piece is, the higher opportunity Spotify Algorithm promotes your song to new listeners, add it to its playlists and exposes its visibility. Experienced music marketers also claimed that a score of 20+ in the first few weeks would get you onto Release Radar, and an SPI of 30+ would get you onto Discover Weekly.

How to check your SPI?

The SPI is not visible on the Audience Insights from your Spotify Artists Account, like the monthly listeners and followers. Therefore, you have to check it through Spotify Developer API. It is endpoint metadata of the artist’s music directly from the Spotify Data Catalog. In case you want to know more about the artist account, here is our review of the Spotify Artist Account.

If you concern with the coding issue, here are 3 real-time tools that give you SPI by analyzing your song’s statistics from popularity, tempo, energy and danceability. Here’re some platforms that allow you to check your score quickly:

  • Musicstax: This is a free and easy tool to find your SPI with one step by searching for your name and song.
  • Chartmetric: This tool allows you to track your SPI and global digital artist rank. However, the free version will have limited features, and you need to upgrade to the Premium version to expand your search possibilities.
  • Songstats: This is the real-time music data and labels by connecting with your Spotify for Artist account. It will help you have a comprehensive understanding of your audience and your performance. However, it only offers one week’s trial, and then you have to pay for it.

If you have the coding knowledge and want to check your SPI directly. You can check your Spotify Popularity Index by the following steps:
